QUINTA DO SIL

D.O. VALDEORRAS

100% Godello   /  14,2% vol. alcohol   /  75 cl.

Winemaking: Destemming of the clusters, followed by a short maceration (> 4 hours) of the berries. Slight and very slow pressing, static decantation of the juice in preparation for a prolonged temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks.
Closure: Natural cork.
Bottling date: End of March 2021.
Tasting notes: Lemon yellow color, clean and bright. The nose is eloquent; it smells of yellow fruits, ripe cantaloupe melon, papaya and herbs such as camomile.
It is sweet, intense and very voluminous in the mouth, with medium persistence and a slightly bitter finish.

D.O. VALDEORRAS

Valdeorras is an authentic and traditional area, where the origins of winemaking go back many centuries, to the time when the Roman legions planted the first vines.
Its peculiar soils of slate, granite, clay-ferrous and pebbles, its climate of cold winters and warm summers with Atlantic and continental influences, as well as its altitude, which ranges between 300 and 700 metres above sea level, provide the Godello grapes worldwide quality and make this area a less and less hidden treasure.
Here the river Sil takes centre stage because it flows through a fertile and very luminous valley where the vineyard is located, which constitutes a unique natural landscape and separates it into two slopes. The soils of the southern part are the best considered for vine cultivation because they are well drained and less fertile, thus generating an adequate yield as well as an optimal ripening.

The annual rainfall tends to be between 850 and 1,000 mm per year and the average temperature is 11ºC.

The climatic conditions of the vintage 2020

In 2020 the winter was mild, warmer than normal, but then there were late frosts that affected the different plots unevenly. Then came the rainy spring, which left water reserves to face the hot summer.

The last weeks before the harvest, after the August rains, were dry and hot, very similar to those of 2019, with strong northerly winds, dehydrating the berries and concentrating both sugar and acidity.

Godello continues to be the king of the appellation’s varieties, accounting for 60% of the harvest.

In short: The good weather favoured disease control. Thanks to following the rules of integrated production, the harvest resulted in healthy and very tasty grapes with an exceptional quality.
